Digging out the slag pits underneath the furnaces and transporting the slag to another location for further processing
During the steelmaking process, molten slag floats to the top of the furnace and is subsequently poured away into a pit underneath the furnace. The molten steel is then removed to be teamed through a caster (LST). Regular under-furnace digging is essential for the efficient production of the furnace and quality steel. Without it, there would be a build-up of material under the furnace, which would be detrimental to production and would eventually stop it altogether. We pioneered this activity for several years, on multiple sites, and have an excellent track record for keeping customer furnaces going through our unrivalled experience, asset selection and good practice.
