High Friction Surfacing (HFS)
High Friction Surfacing (HFS)

A single layer of hard, polish resistant aggregate (Bauxite currently specified) adhered to the road surface with a specialist binder

High friction surfaces are usually used on relatively small areas of a road to reduce skidding accidents at high risk locations, such as crossing approaches and tight bends. There are two different versions:hot applied, which is where aggregate is mixed with a resin binder; or cold applied where the aggregate is spread across an epoxy resin. Both methods are hand applied and labor intensive. Harsco Environmental has the BBA HAPAS Roads and Bridges Certificate required for this product.
